The aftermath of the Mexican Revolution devalued the Peso to being almost worthless. Resourceful Mexican blacksmiths forged coins into objects of higher value, like jewelry. A certain style of signet ring was a popular item.

These rings were first discovered by American motorcycle clubs in the 1940s. They were a much sought after item due to the ban on brass knuckles. A fist full of Mexican biker rings made a nice replacement.
